Trick or Treat...

Katelyn was a bee for her class Halloween Party.

Originally, Sam and Kate were going to be ketchup and mustard. But a few days before Halloween we saw this hamburger costume on clearance and bought it for Sam.

At the last minute, I threw on the ketchup costume. I figured if Michael was a good sport to be a giant hot dog, I could be ketchup.

Camille and Sam were both sick.  Camille slept through most of the trick or treating.

San Diego!

Ok, so we never actually made it to San Diego.  But we had big plans to.  We had planned to go with some friends and bought our passes for 3 fun filled days in San Diego to include the likes of Legoland and Sea World. But our plans were thwarted.  I must back up and give a little background info because I'm genetically incapable of providing a short story... it must be long and include lots of details.
So, a couple of months ago, my poor little Kate got pneumonia.  She has a bad set of lungs on her and sadly if she gets a bad respiratory cold of any sort she goes downhill fast. The dr asked if I wanted to give her a shot of of the antibiotics, I said no, she was good about taking medicine for me and I didn't want to put her through that (it would have literally required a wrestling match on my part, plus, like I said, she was good about taking medicine).  WELL, she was so sick that when we got home she threw up her antibiotics... thus slowing down her progress of getting better. So, a month ago, when she got pneumonia again (it happened to be on a Monday when I took her to the drs) I asked for the shot (and yes, me and 2 nurses had to hold her down to giver her the shot... 2 of them, one in each leg).  Well, she got better SO FAST!  By the next night, she wanted to play in her soccer game.
So, fast forward to our vacation.  She was sick all weekend and got progressively worse. We kept the trip a secret from the kids and we were going to put them in the car when they got home on Tuesday as a surprise and tell them.  On Monday I took Kate to the drs and it was pneumonia again.  I asked if we should cancel the trip. He said  no, take her nebulizer, her new ashtma medicine, her antibiotic and she should be fine. In hindsight... I should have asked for the shot!  That night she got worse but we were supposed to leave when Sam got home from school. We debated all morning and at the last minute we decided that she had recovered so quickly last month that we'd be sorry if we canceled this trip and have her be better in a day. So off we went.  The car ride was horrible.  Normally, Katelyn takes great care of Camille. She sings to her, gives her snacks, keeps her entertained... but I didn't want her coughing on her so we put Sam next to Camille and before long both Sam and Camille were crying and Katelyn was throwing up.  We got to Las Vegas about 11 pm (we were staying with our friends at her parents house, and they were supposed to be out of town... they were not). So, I put the kids in bed and went to bed and a few hours later Katelyn came in throwing up and considerably worse.  So, I wanted to leave right then but we couldn't wake the entire house to get out so here we were holed up in a bedroom from 2 am to 4 am trying to keep the kids quiet so we didn't wake the entire house.  They did fall back to sleep for a few hours around 4 am.  In the morning we broke it to the kids we weren't going on to San Diego... we were going back home.  All the kids were crying, sad that we had driven 6 hrs to just turn back around and go home.
We tried to soften the blow by going to the Shark Reef thing in Las Vegas and I called my sister and she got a room booked at her time share for that night so the kids could at least swim.  They had so much fun and Katelyn progressively got better... but we only had the place for one night.  Sadly, we had to go back home.

Then once we got home. I got sick with bronchitis.  Then Camille and Sam got sick. Ug.
So, there's my long story, with too many details.  One day... (we promised) we'll make it to San Diego.
And yes Rachel (if you read this) we would have visited you... but I assure you, you wanted NO PART in our sickness, especially with a tiny baby.

Wow... so many changes!

So, here I am checking blogs and  there are no updates.  Can't you guys help me waste some time :)
So here's my inspiration to all of you, I am blogging so that I can see how you are all doing?!   It seems like we are crazy busy around here and although we've been busy I feel disconnected to the friends and family I love.  I know school has started, babies have been or will be born...  there has to be some news or at least someone venting about something!?
Ok, here we go.  So, summer has come and gone. I can hardly believe it.  It was such a blur, it came and went so fast.  This summer we started a remodel on our home.  It started out not as a remodel, but just that we've been wanting new carpet.  Then the carpet turned into new paint, then a new wall, a new door... it's getting out of hand. But I love it!  (The way it looks, not necessarily what we're going through to get the project done). Currently we are all living in our basement and have been for over a month...  it feels a little like camping but we will soon be done.  (Camping you say... in a house, with bathrooms, I say camping because it's as close to camping as I like).  I say "soon" to will it to be done soon... we have already been like this for much longer than I imagined.  I'll have to post pictures later..  (My hubby grits his teeth every time he thinks that we didn't get before pictures... I'll do my best to find some before pics).   But so far we've ripped out all the carpets, the new wall is in, the new door is in, the paint is done (minus the laundry room and bathrooms) light fixtures are moved, etc.  We are done to the point where we need carpet! (Which tons more work will need to be done once that is here to get our lives back together like putting back on doors, hinges, door knobs, etc.) I've stepped on more tack strips than I thought possible, for some reason I am a magnet for them.
Here's what we've all been up to in addition to our home project:
Camille is 8 months old and she's a busy little thing.  She's crawling, and has been for nearly a month!  Ug.  None of my kids crawled that early.  Her motivation has been that she loves to crawl to the carpet remnants we have strategically placed over the tack strips to try and spare our feet, and pulls of bits of carpet and eats them. She's growing up way too fast.  She's had her first ear infection, poor kiddo.
Katelyn has had pneumonia and is struggling with her asthma (darn school) where she's on steroids right now and breathing treatments pretty regularly.  They also have us smack her on the back trying to open up those lungs.  She started kindergarten and dance (and LOVES both of them).
Sam has been healthy! (Thanks, I'm sure to getting his tonsils out).

Hmm, it's been kind of an all consuming project. So we didn't do much else. Well, we went to the Hubby's 20 yr reunion. He's glad we went.   What else?  He's been doing the painting and the heavy grunt work while I help with what I can with my baby.
Me:  Skipped my 15 yr reunion, but that weekend I bumped into a friend from HS.  Here's our conversation:
Him: "Hi!  Sarah right?"
Me: "Nope, Judy"
Him: "Oh, that's right, I'm sorry I knew that.  You married?"
Me: "Yep (had my kids with me, and introduced them)."
Him: "Oh, so what's your last name?"
Me:  "Gardner"
Him:  "Still?"
Hmmm.  I guess I'm recognizable and yet so very forgettable :) Made me glad we skipped my reunion. That night he requested my friendship on facebook.

So, as soon as I can dig my way through our stuff to my regular computer where our pictures are I will post some pics.

SUMMER!

I'm bored so I'm lurking on people's blogs... and no one is posting!  Come on, I need some entertainment.  No more tv shows to watch... I finished my book (Gone With the Wind... again... loved it still).  So, I guess it's been a while since I posted. So, here's my update.

Sam went on father's and son's.  He looks forward to this EVERY YEAR!  It's a highlight for him. Especially camping out in the gray van. Our little girl's weekend was thwarted because Kate got sick.  Oh well. He also finished 1st grade.  Can you believe that?  I remember finishing 1st grade and onto 2nd.  He's getting so old. His childhood is slipping away from me.  He danced in his dance program.  He danced to "Put on a Happy Face"   Saturday was a blur because Sam broke his arm on Saturday.  We go tomorrow to get his cast on.  Our summer plans of swimming are on hold.  What to do with a one armed kid?  AND and infant... movie theaters are out.  Ug.  See, my bad mood.

Kate graduated from preschool.  She did super cute in her little program.  She's excited to start kindergarten in the fall. Me, not so excited. I will miss her.  She's been my little pal for a while now.  I asked her if she'd stay home with me and she said I had Camille to stay home with me.  Kids change forever once they go to kindergarten.

Camille.  My cute little Camille has turned into a stinky sleeper.  She's up every 2-3 hours.  (She was giving me 5-6 hrs. at one point).  Her naps are awful, 20-30 min, where I'm anxiety ridden and have resorted to telling the kids to go downstairs to not wake her up... but she does anyway.  Daddy keeps on threatening to let her cry it out. I keep on whispering to her that he means it.  One night I went out and he let her.  She cried for 45 minutes.  When she finally stopped, he heard crying and went to see... it was Sam. Crying for Camille, because Daddy wouldn't take care of her.  He's so tenderhearted.  We haven't done it since, but if she doesn't shape up, we may have to. I'm dreading it.  I'm stressing about it. I'm losing my hair over it.

So, I got on this after forever and noticed my last post was just saved... and not posted.  So, here's my update now that over a month of summer is GONE!  Holy cow. It's slipping away.  So, here's what we've done since my post a month ago (even though it looks like I posted today).

Sam:  The cast was waterproof. Can you believe it?  How neat.  So, he was able to get it wet and everything, so it didn't hamper our plans at all.  And now he has it off.

Kate:   One Sunday Michael and I worked and worked with her to try to teach her how to ride her bike.  She just wasn't getting it.  We told her we'd have to try another day when she just got too frustrated and threw her bike down (a big no no).  The next day as I was making the kids list of chores to do she told me she wanted me to put "ride a 2 wheeler" on her list of jobs. I told her that I would put "practice" on her list, and she could do it once her jobs were done. The kids kept on asking me to come out and I told them as soon as I finished mopping my floor, my job, I'd come out.  When I came out... she was riding it!  That day we went down to eat lunch with daddy.. and I put the bike in the van so that when he came out of his work when we picked him up, she came out from behind the van riding it to him.  She thought it would be a great surprise.

She and Sam moved into the basement so we could tackle the upstairs (painting and recarpeting) and I. Am. Loving. It.  Bedtimes were such a stress and the giggling and talking right next to Camille's room about drove us crazy.  Now... they can giggle and talk all they want. We don't hear it. It doesn't wake up the baby... and the best part: They sleep in. Until almost 8.  Yay!  After the newness wore off after a couple of days sleeping downstairs without a problem, they pulled the "I'm scared and want to move back upstairs" but they are never coming back upstairs. Ever.

Camille:  My cute cute Camille. I warned her.  I told her we'd have to let her cry.  Just be nice and go to sleep without the fight.  But we ended up letting her cry it out. It broke my heart (at least this time Sam and Kate were in the basement so they didn't hear it).  But here's the thing.  She sleeps so much better now.  Even her naps.  She's happier. I'm happier.  She doesn't sleep through the night yet, but she's only 5 months old. But she goes down without crying, and sleeps longer and her naps are better.  She's also "talking" so much  and babbling and rolling around and sitting up.  I love this stage. She's so cute.

So, summer is slipping away. We've been to a family reunion in Bear Lake. The kids loved it and want to go back.  We also went to the zoo...  I can't think of anything else.

Ok, my pics are on my other computer so you'll have to wait to see pictures.  And post already so you don't have to read my bored ramblings!

EASTER

Happy Easter everyone!
The kids prior to Sunday morning had been to 2 different Easter Egg hunts...
I was sure since our Easter the year before was fairly uneventful they wouldn't expect much.  But, they had some vague remembrances of an Easter basket in the past (or else they had some expectations they got from someone else).  Every year, I'm stumped as what to "do" for Easter (hide the baskets?  have yet ANOTHER egg hunt for MORE candy?)
So, Saturday I called some people asked what they "did" for Easter and chose to do none of them because (see prior post) I was still burnt out from the weekend before.  So, Saturday night Michael went to bed and I made the baskets and put them in plain sight on our couch in our front living room, which we don't use unless we have visiting/home teachers.  So come morning... I figured the kids would "find" them and that'd be it.  Hours later the kids were asking when we were going to have "Easter" and Sam was telling me that we could hide their baskets with their "stuff" in it. I told them to go and clean their room and then they could find them.  (I know, I'm a bad mom).  So, they went to their room to clean... and we took the baskets from plain sight and hid them :)
So, they ran out of their room when it was all cleaned ready to find their stuff (what they expected I don't know) and then I decided I didn't want pajamas in Easter pictures so I told the kids to get ready for church first.  Katelyn stamped her foot and said, "We have to go to church on EASTER?!"  Needless to say, it was a moment where I realized I am lacking as a mom yet again. So, I asked the kids why we had Easter (why don't they give the Easter lesson before Easter so the kids know... ha ha, just kidding, I know it's my job). Sam had no guess.  Katelyn said "We're celebrating Jesus's birth" (Christmas answer)  So, we sat our kids down and told them why we celebrated Easter and we watched the church's DVD Finding Faith in Christ (the one you can get for free if you're investigating the church, they sent it out in the Ensign a couple of  years ago).
So, after that we let the kids look for their baskets.  The kids were thrilled with their stuff (Kate got some pet shop toys and Sam got a toy  microscope).   After church we headed up to grandma's house for dinner and our 3rd egg hunt.
Wow.  What a day. Maybe I'll be better next year.

Camille's Blessing

Possibly one of my favorite pics of Sam and Kate ever, too bad Camille wasn't in the photo too.

We blessed Camille last Sunday.  My sister was in town for the occassion, and I have to say if it weren't for her I would have been crazy without her help (since I think she and my other sister are the only ones who frequent this blog... THANK YOU!)  Here are some pics of the fun day we had. (I'm glad it's over.)
Before church...
As I was putting these on my camera I realized we never got a pic of just Camille in the blessing dress (and I changed her out of it once we got home because it was so long... )

CS Lewis

‎"Getting over a painful experience is much like crossing monkey bars. You have to let go at some point in order to move forward." - C.S. Lewis

I like that quote.  It seems to strike a chord in my soul right now that I'm posting it on my blog and sending it out into cyberspace.   So, not to take away from the initial quote... here's another that I particularly like.

"We are not necessarily doubting that God will do the best for us; we are wondering how painful the best will turn out to be."  -C.S. Lewis

Cute Camille

So, since we wont be taking Camille to church for months (my sister thought we might calm down with the whole germy thing, this being kid number 3... but honestly, maybe I've gotten worse). I am paranoid this little thing will get sick. My friend gave us this darling dress for her to wear. So, while Daddy and the kiddos were at church we had a little photo shoot (since she will outgrow it before she enters any church building). I'm super sad she's already 2 weeks old.

It's a Girl!

Most of you already know we had a little baby girl on January 21st.

Camille Jayne

19 1/2 inches long

She is beautiful and we love her. I will have to add more pics of her later.
