Ok, so we never actually made it to San Diego. But we had big plans to. We had planned to go with some friends and bought our passes for 3 fun filled days in San Diego to include the likes of Legoland and Sea World. But our plans were thwarted. I must back up and give a little background info because I'm genetically incapable of providing a short story... it must be long and include lots of details.
So, a couple of months ago, my poor little Kate got pneumonia. She has a bad set of lungs on her and sadly if she gets a bad respiratory cold of any sort she goes downhill fast. The dr asked if I wanted to give her a shot of of the antibiotics, I said no, she was good about taking medicine for me and I didn't want to put her through that (it would have literally required a wrestling match on my part, plus, like I said, she was good about taking medicine). WELL, she was so sick that when we got home she threw up her antibiotics... thus slowing down her progress of getting better. So, a month ago, when she got pneumonia again (it happened to be on a Monday when I took her to the drs) I asked for the shot (and yes, me and 2 nurses had to hold her down to giver her the shot... 2 of them, one in each leg). Well, she got better SO FAST! By the next night, she wanted to play in her soccer game.
So, fast forward to our vacation. She was sick all weekend and got progressively worse. We kept the trip a secret from the kids and we were going to put them in the car when they got home on Tuesday as a surprise and tell them. On Monday I took Kate to the drs and it was pneumonia again. I asked if we should cancel the trip. He said no, take her nebulizer, her new ashtma medicine, her antibiotic and she should be fine. In hindsight... I should have asked for the shot! That night she got worse but we were supposed to leave when Sam got home from school. We debated all morning and at the last minute we decided that she had recovered so quickly last month that we'd be sorry if we canceled this trip and have her be better in a day. So off we went. The car ride was horrible. Normally, Katelyn takes great care of Camille. She sings to her, gives her snacks, keeps her entertained... but I didn't want her coughing on her so we put Sam next to Camille and before long both Sam and Camille were crying and Katelyn was throwing up. We got to Las Vegas about 11 pm (we were staying with our friends at her parents house, and they were supposed to be out of town... they were not). So, I put the kids in bed and went to bed and a few hours later Katelyn came in throwing up and considerably worse. So, I wanted to leave right then but we couldn't wake the entire house to get out so here we were holed up in a bedroom from 2 am to 4 am trying to keep the kids quiet so we didn't wake the entire house. They did fall back to sleep for a few hours around 4 am. In the morning we broke it to the kids we weren't going on to San Diego... we were going back home. All the kids were crying, sad that we had driven 6 hrs to just turn back around and go home.
We tried to soften the blow by going to the Shark Reef thing in Las Vegas and I called my sister and she got a room booked at her time share for that night so the kids could at least swim. They had so much fun and Katelyn progressively got better... but we only had the place for one night. Sadly, we had to go back home.
Then once we got home. I got sick with bronchitis. Then Camille and Sam got sick. Ug.
So, there's my long story, with too many details. One day... (we promised) we'll make it to San Diego.
And yes Rachel (if you read this) we would have visited you... but I assure you, you wanted NO PART in our sickness, especially with a tiny baby.
