Puppy Love...

My kids and I went to my nephew's baseball game yesterday and there was a family there that had 2 of these dogs. My kids are scared of dogs... but they LOVED this dog. Loved it. The lady that owns the dogs has a son on my nephew's baseball team, she was super sweet and nice and was great about my kids playing with the dogs. The lady said they weren't ever dog people either, especially her husband but that has all changed now and she said, "It's sick how much he loves these dogs." I was thinking. "Really?!" I don't think I've ever had the desire to own a dog. I'm not a dog person. At all. And someone who is even less of a dog person is my husband.
But, I was seriously tempted last night seeing how much my kids loved this dog. They talked about it non-stop on the way home. Asked when they could get a dog. And of course, Sam even included these two puppies in his prayers by name before bed last night.
I've always said my kids wont experience pets. I think their pet needs have been fulfilled when it rains, they go out and gather the worms off the driveway and play with them. But, maybe after seeing how much they loved this little puppy, it will change my mind. Maybe. We'll see.

Crazy Weather...

So, this was Monday:
We were out in the yard, doing yard work, putting mulch in our garden and flower bed....

Have I mentioned how much we love this little green truck?

And this was this morning:

8-9 inches of snow! It had rained all day Wednesday, with snow a little bit, but nothing stuck. And we woke up to this. Michael had to go out and shake the snow off our trees so the branches wouldn't break. We had to break out all of the snow gear again.
And it's supposed to be in the 70's again on Monday...

Easter

So, I struggled with Easter this year... what to do? I want my kids to have happy memories associated with Easter, but just how to do it? Then we worked all day Saturday in the garage and in the yard. And by night, both of us were just too exhausted to do any sort of Easter preparation... So, Easter was probably not as exciting as the Easter Egg hunt we went to. I had intended on doing our own Easter Egg hunt but it fizzled and it never ended up happening (in my defense, they had already been to the neighborhood one). They did get Easter baskets... just before church. With no candy in them because it was in the eggs that never got hidden or found.

Sam got a basketball in his (I also got a basketball standard for our cement that we will set up one day).

Katelyn got princess jewelry. Kate is DYING to get her ears pierced. Michael and I differ in this. I kinda want to get her ears pierced now... he wants to wait. Whenever I wear earrings Kate says "I like your earrings mom, can I have some?" Then I explain to her that she can't get earrings until she's got holes in her ears and I said to her "It will hurt really bad like a shot, do you still want earrings?" And she said, "Yes." One day a week or two ago she came in and said "I think I've got holes in my ears, I can have earrings now!" Anyway, she likes jewelry and so that's what she got. The earrings and crown were the biggest hit of course and when I put the earrings on her (clip-ons) She turned to me and said "That didn't hurt."
Growing up we always decorated Easter eggs... but I have never wanted to do that. The vinegar smell is gross... and, seriously to me, a big waste of time and then you've got loads of hard boiled eggs which you can eat for only so long before they make me gag. I totally prefer the plastic eggs. So, not wanting to be a crappy mom, I DID make egg shaped sugar cookies so we could do egg decorating of our own kind. BUT Michael got sick Easter night and I took the kids up to Alpine to get them out of the house so he could get some rest and we've never actually decorated them and we've eaten so many unfrosted/undecorated sugar cookies I don't think it's worth it to make a batch of frosting for the little we've got left. I don't know, we'll see. Seeing as it's Spring Break and horrible weather... maybe we'll make another batch and do it after all.

Neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt

Posted by PicasaOur neighbors host an annual Easter Egg hunt at their place every year. We haven't been able to make it the last couple of years because we've had something that has conflicted... but this year we were able to make it and it was so fun! They have everyone bring a dozen candy filled eggs per kid, and then something to share. The kids are still talking about it. The food was great and it was fun to visit with friends and neighbors. Thanks Monique and family for such a great time!

Potty Training...

So... I finally got around to potty training Katelyn. I have to say she's done GREAT! (Knock on wood...)

I was reading the Reader's Digest and Kate saw this picture, and she said "That Kitty needs to go potty just like me." I didn't think she'd like me taking a picture of her on the potty (maybe not now... but in the future). So there's the pic for this post.

Sam is totally motivated by bribes, I'd tape a sucker to the bathroom wall and say... if you go potty you get that treat. But not Katelyn. Even the mention of a potty treat and she thinks she deserves it and throws a fit. So, for her, it was buying Disney Princess underwear... and she didn't want to get those dirty so... she'd go on the potty! We've been going strong for about a week and a half now. There's no turning back.
