EASTER
Happy Easter everyone!
The kids prior to Sunday morning had been to 2 different Easter Egg hunts...
I was sure since our Easter the year before was fairly uneventful they wouldn't expect much. But, they had some vague remembrances of an Easter basket in the past (or else they had some expectations they got from someone else). Every year, I'm stumped as what to "do" for Easter (hide the baskets? have yet ANOTHER egg hunt for MORE candy?)
So, Saturday I called some people asked what they "did" for Easter and chose to do none of them because (see prior post) I was still burnt out from the weekend before. So, Saturday night Michael went to bed and I made the baskets and put them in plain sight on our couch in our front living room, which we don't use unless we have visiting/home teachers. So come morning... I figured the kids would "find" them and that'd be it. Hours later the kids were asking when we were going to have "Easter" and Sam was telling me that we could hide their baskets with their "stuff" in it. I told them to go and clean their room and then they could find them. (I know, I'm a bad mom). So, they went to their room to clean... and we took the baskets from plain sight and hid them :)
So, they ran out of their room when it was all cleaned ready to find their stuff (what they expected I don't know) and then I decided I didn't want pajamas in Easter pictures so I told the kids to get ready for church first. Katelyn stamped her foot and said, "We have to go to church on EASTER?!" Needless to say, it was a moment where I realized I am lacking as a mom yet again. So, I asked the kids why we had Easter (why don't they give the Easter lesson before Easter so the kids know... ha ha, just kidding, I know it's my job). Sam had no guess. Katelyn said "We're celebrating Jesus's birth" (Christmas answer) So, we sat our kids down and told them why we celebrated Easter and we watched the church's DVD Finding Faith in Christ (the one you can get for free if you're investigating the church, they sent it out in the Ensign a couple of years ago).
So, after that we let the kids look for their baskets. The kids were thrilled with their stuff (Kate got some pet shop toys and Sam got a toy microscope). After church we headed up to grandma's house for dinner and our 3rd egg hunt.
Wow. What a day. Maybe I'll be better next year.

Now Judy, give yourself some credit for all you do as a parent! Your kids are amazing. And the one with Camille in the basket.....priceless!
I hate easter baskets. I do. I hate the whole bunny thing. I get the boys gardening stuff and they get a very small basket of eggs with their favorite candies. i did it the last 2 years and i think I will continue it. We told them it was from us. Believe in a giant bunny? that's got to be way scarier than santa.
I like the basket in the top picture. Now THAT is an Easter basket! =) Such a beautiful family Judy. miss you!
I'm totally laughing at this post because I felt like I could have written it! I know a lot of parents go all out and really seem to know just what to do for the holidays, but I'm still figuring out where I want to be on the scale of simple to complicated. I think you did great!
Did the kids have to hunt for their eggs AND Camille? Possibly one of my favorite Easter pictures ever.
